Young Women Meet Mentors in Trade at Luncheon
Young women from Long Beach-area high schools and colleges gathered on Nov. 16 with women in the local logistics industry at the Port’s seventh annual Celebrating Women in Trade Luncheon. The event gave the young women a chance to interact one-on-one with women who play leading roles in trade and commerce and learn about career paths and opportunities.
Also featured was a panel discussing the role of women in the industry. Participating were Samantha Galltin, BNSF Railway; LaFonda Sutton-Burke, U.S. Customs and Border Protection; Noelle Gomez, cadet at Cal State Maritime Academy; Sandra Maksim, Long Beach Container Terminal; Heather Tomley, Port of Long Beach; and moderator Bonnie Lowenthal, Long Beach Harbor Commissioner and former councilwoman and Assembly member.
The event also took time to honor former Long Beach Mayor Beverly O’Neill, who received the 2017 Advancing Women in International Trade Award.
